Spaghetti Dinner for Christmas Recipe Ingredients

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 pound lean ground beef

1 medium to large onion, diced

1 to 2 teaspoons dried oregano, crushed

Dried parsley fl akes, crushed, to taste

Dried sweet basil, crushed, to taste

Garlic powder, to taste

Salt and freshly ground black pepper,
to taste

1 (28-ounce) can stewed whole
tomatoes, with juice and broken up

1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce

1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste

Pinch sugar

1 (8-ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms,
sautéed in 2 tablespoons butter,
or 1 (13.25-ounce) can mushroom
stems and pieces, drained

1 (1-pound) box spaghetti, cooked al
dente

Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish

In skillet, brown the meat and onion
with the spices. Transfer mixture to slow
cooker. Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce,
tomato paste, and a pinch of sugar; stir
to mix. Cover with the lid and cook on
high 1 hour. Vent lid with a toothpick and
simmer on low for 3 hours more. Add the
sautéed fresh mushrooms (or substitute
the canned stems and pieces); turn setting
back to high and cook ½ hour more.
To serve, place freshly cooked pasta in
the serving bowl. Ladle a little sauce
over the pasta and toss lightly. Pour on
the remaining sauce. Serve “family-style”
and pass grated Parmesan cheese on the
side. Serve with garlic bread and a simple
greens and vinaigrette salad to complete
