Sassy Baked Beans - Sassy Baked Beans Recipe Ingredients


1 pound dried great Northern beans
or navy beans, rinsed, drained, and
picked clean

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 onion, diced

1½ cups tomato sauce

½ cup molasses

½ cup dark brown sugar

1 teaspoon dry mustard

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 shot of Worcestershire sauce

Salt and freshly ground black pepper,
to taste

Sassy Baked Beans - Sassy Baked Beans Recipe Cooking Process

Bring water to cover to a boil in a large
pot. Add the beans and quick-cook for
10 minutes. Remove from the heat and
stir in the baking soda. Drain and rinse
the beans.
Put the beans in the slow cooker with
enough water to cover. Cover with the
lid and cook on low heat 10 to 12 hours,
or until fork tender. Drain off all but 1
cup cooking liquid. Blend the remaining
ingredients (except salt and pepper),
mixing well, and stir into the beans.
Cover and continue to cook on low for 2
to 4 hours more, until the beans are hot,
bubbly, thick, saucy, and cooked to your
satisfaction. Adjust seasonings with salt
and pepper.
